Tawk Amongst Yourselves
Greetings, loyal minions. Your Maximum Leader poses a question to you all to discuss.
Are movie scores a subgenre of “Classical” music or a genre all their own?
Discuss.
Carry on.
For those of you who need examples to make things real…
Score: (definition 8c) The music written for a film or a play.
Would you consider the work of John Williams (composer of music for hundreds of films, Jerry Goldsmith, and Maurice Jarre to fall in that broad category of music that would also include the works of Beethoven, Bach, Wagner, Grieg, Strauss, etc. etc.? Or should the work of motion picture film scores be considered as its own special genre of music?
Carry on.
